He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools

He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools, in New Brighton is a multi-award winning development. These include the NZILA Award of Excellence for Parks, Open Spaces and Recreation, 2022, as well as winning two Property People Awards: The Supreme Excellence Award and Resene Urban Design Award.

The Pools have been a huge hit since it's opening in June 2020. It is the second part of a two stage initiative to redevelop the seafront at New Brighton and provide a recreational catalyst and visitor attraction to the area.

The facility includes five salt water hot pools, one cold plunge pool and a seaward facing sauna. As well as the hot pools area, our landscape design also encompasses the urban streetscape interface and seafront promenade including a boardwalk, bespoke street furniture elements, a pocket park, native dune restoration, amenity planting and hardscape design.

Glasson Huxtable were appointed as landscape architects to this project by Development Christchurch Ltd (DCL). During this process, we worked closely with DCL, CCC, Select Contracts (lead consultant / project delivery), AWA architects, structural and civil engineers. Matapopore (representing Ngai Tahu) also collaborated to integrate cultural narratives into the landscape designs.

Glasson Huxtable have also worked on the wider seafront redevelopment at New Brighton which includes the adjacent New Brighton Playground & Splash park.
