These waste treatment ponds required a sustainable design approach as well as the consideration for the wider implications of their use other than for treatment purposes. Our role was to provide advice with regards to suitable plant species that would act as filters to remove nitrates and aid the breakdown of organic matter. The appropriate edge treatment of the holding ponds were designed to provide breeding habitats for bird life. This has proved successful in attracting many birds to the environment.
